MISSION LADY FINISHED PLUS

This is the finished painting of Our Lady of the Mission.  She is off in the mail, donated to the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco for their You Are Beautiful Exhibition.   Previously I said she was a pay-it -forward project.  This is the story.  Last week just before Christmas my husband was at work at his part time job in a retail store.  A man came in with a wad of cash.  He peeled off a one hundred dollar bill and gave it to my husband, saying God has been good to him and he is passing it on.

With nothing else really to give as a pay-it-forward,  I painted this Lady and donated it to the Mission Cultural Center for their upcoming show. I recall some of the donated art we got when I worked at a local art center, and since these places were hurt a lot by the economic downturn and the cutting of  government art grants, every penny counts toward keeping these centers open.  Hopefully it will sell, and the Center can keep the profits.  If it does not sell, at least it will be displayed somewhere in the streets of San Francisco after the show, and perhaps someone will benefit from the love that went into painting it.

OUR LADY OF THE MISSION
11x14 acrylic and gold leaf on canvas board
loosely modeled after St. Margaret by Filippino Lippi 1457-1504

Since I brought my art table in from the garage I figured I might as well put it to use so I have made use of the time off work during these holidays to paint a couple of other things. Small things.

  7. She's beautiful! The veil is fantastic and so realistic looking.

People are good and generous and you're passing it all on to someone else. That's what Christmas is all about.
