Sunday Verse

Suburban Sunrise

The sky slowly emerges from darkness,
a subtle hue of orange seeps over  wide expanse of deep blue,
yellow sun seeks a hazy path through  molecules of moving mist.

Street lights compete with a breaking dawn
fading out one by one
from bright glare, to soft bluish, to gone.
Morning sounds begin with  birds awakening,
thrusting forth tentative musical trilling, testing their surroundings with
 short, melodious notes,
cautiously feeling what this day will bring

A gentle thumping sound of dew dripping from the roof,
the warmth of the sun creating small rivulets of water,
 gravitational pull bringing them together
downward,
into the thirsty ground.

 Street sweeper lumbers slowly by,
its giant yellow heart swishing into the quiet softness of the morning,
mixing with other intrusive sounds;
a distant door slams,
a dog barks.
The tranquil zone of dawn has been breached.
 Day has begun.
