in the low country
barefoot boys dig fishing worms
near a river's edge
on a sunny porch
an old man dreams past pleasures
grim reaper hovers
There is youth. And there is advanced age. Somewhere in the middle ground there is light and love. We should reach for it, surround ourselves with it, and bring it with us to that rocking chair on the sunny porch, for that light and love will envelop us and keep us wrapped in warmth into eternity.

Why can't the Grim Reaper just go away and stay away? :)
ReplyDeleteI am on the porch with that old man, sharing my light & love. And believe it or not I am digging up worms with those little boys. Living my life until the end. Trusting God will see us through. <3
ReplyDeleteHappy, sunny, melancholy, youth and old age... it's all here. Such wonderful haiku!

I love the mirror your words place between what was, what is, what we can make our now be... The grim reaper is always there, even when we are born. We just know him better the older we get. But like your words suggests, this doesn't mean that we should start running and screaming. It's best to hold on to the good, so that when the other comes, we have yumminess to take with us...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and poignant Judie. In haiku and word and all the places in-between....
ReplyDeleteTwo meaningful haikus
ReplyDeleteIt's worth thinking about.
Especially about the 2.
