Haiku my Heart - Earth Day

sweet jasmine branches
hang low over the koi pond
dropping white petals

Celebrating our planet today. It's the only "home" we have.
The 2022 theme for this day is Invest In Our Planet!

-plant a tree
-feed some birds
-clean up a beach or park
-support environmental protection

Small things count.
I fed the birds and planted sunflowers.

Have you noticed Google's Earth Day doodle?
It shows the 20 year impact of climate change
on our planet. Sad!

  2. judy your white petals and koi pond lifted my heart. i was almost in tears writing this comment earlier "on this Earth day the Southwest is burning with a vengeance, Crooks fire only ten miles from our home burns with zero containment since early Tuesday morning. the winds have been 30 to 50 miles an hour all week and today they rage on. while the Tunnel fire in Flagstaff; with 70 mile an hour winds is a firestorm of destruction that sends its smoke all the way to New Mexico and Colorado- where they are fighting fires of their own. i remember when my son was small we always went to the Earth Day celebrations in what was “small” town Prescott. it was so joyous and full of promise. but the politicians continue to sell giant swaths natural land for new subdivisions-the water- they will only privately admit- cannot support. i would love to say i haven’t lost hope in mankind doing the right thing, but even from a peaceful labyrinth the skies look grim. i want to wake everyone up- i want to say please stop the greed and madness, what happen to the good of the whole? what happen to making intentional decisions as true custodians of this earth? what happened to human “kind”?

i do strive to be hopeful and lift hearts where and when i can but i have to share the sorrow that lies underneath the light.
    xoxo

  3. Your haiku, Judie is exquisite. Those images and words will follow me all day. Yes. I did see the google Earth Day doodle, last night before going to bed. I had to do deep long breaths. For quite awhile. And bend over. And thanks for reminding me of the ladybug song. It took on a whole new meaning for me today. XO

  8. I love the sense of movement you weave into your haiku. I can see the petals... moving towards the water.

I fed the birds, but couldn't do much planting for Earth Day. The weather is being acting up around these parts. And who can blame Mother Nature for her moods, right?
