spreads its wings and flies
glides the air currents freely
the beautiful bird
look deep into eyes
of birds locked tight in cages
can you see sadness?
this eagle is at a local
sanctuary and cannot
be released due to an
illness. He cannot fly.

Sad for this beautiful eagle but lovely empathic haiku ~
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to you,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Sadness resides in the eyes of children as well as in the eyes of birds.
ReplyDeleteI always feel so uncomfortable in the presence of a caged animal. I can only imagine what they are thinking.
ReplyDeleteThat sadness your poem speaks of explains why I can't go to zoos. The look in caged eyes (I can't free) breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteI don't like birds in cages... I don't like animals in cages... I'm with Magaly here, I don't visit zoo's. Your haiku says it all.
ReplyDeleteI too... cannot abide caged animals or birds, or circuses. And, I am glad that there is a place for Serge to heal. I hope someday... that he will be able to fly free. Thank you Judy.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to confront sadness in humans and in creatures...
ReplyDeleteSad for this lovely eagle.
ReplyDeleteYour words expressed the feeling well.
All the best Jan
