the mountain wind spoke
all creatures heard its sad tale
mother nature's way
Wind In His Wings
The light danced across the craggy mountaintop where the old eagle sat on the cliff edge, his golden brown feathers ruffled for warmth as the wind slid over and around his ancient body. His time had come. His old hollow bones were weak, and those still magnificent huge wings were heavy when he spread them. He had lived well, with many babies, many kills, and many high soars over this long, towering mountain range, catching the currents, gliding free. AND KINDNESS
So many tears mixed in with the words on the wind.

ReplyDeletei thought of you and your tremendous love of birds. and now i read your touching poem and am filled with your gift of grace.

The sadness of the wind in the haiku is echoed "knowing" shared in the prose. Nature and life can be so beautiful, sad, and heartbreaking. Quite often, all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of inspiring that he went with all that surety of a life well lived. I hope when I'm at that moment, I'll look back at things with a similar sense of peace in my heart.
