SUMMERTIME BABY

I thought it was rather late in the season, but mom decided she wanted a baby so there goes our porch light again.  Hubby swears there are two babies in this nest, but I have only seen one and this guy looks ready to fledge.  Cross your fingers for him.  The crows got the last two.

Isn't he a cutie?

UPDATE

Fledgling's first flight.  He made it as far as the porch railing.  There is another baby in the nest but quite a bit smaller.  Hope it makes it.  If mom doesn't come take care of it, I'll call the local baby bird rescue to come get it.

UPDATE 7/27/11

OK, HERE THEY BOTH ARE.  BOTH BABIES FLEDGED AND ON THE GROUND NOW.  MOM STILL COMES TO FEED THEM BUT IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THEY ARE GONE.

I PROMISE, END OF DOVE STORIES!

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.

  2. Me too! I hope the crows don't get it. Awesome bird and I will keep my fingers crossed for it. I won't cross my eyes because I heard the other day that if you cross your eyes, they may stay like that.:)) You said in a comment on my blog that you are thinking that you may start a journal again, please do. I would love to see your work in it. I promise I will. Take care and have a great week.

  3. It is lovely to be able to watch such interesting birds develop. I have been trying to locate the next of my hummingbirds.(2 pair) I am sure they are in my lilac bushes but I keep looking and cannot locate them.

  4. Love the birdie stories. Amazing! I saw a short film about how Eagles have to PUSH their babies out of the nest from high on a cliff....something was said like "If you want to soar you can't be afraid to fall."
